2013 Academic Decathlon
The Los Angeles County Academic Decathlon is a rigorous two- day competition that test knowledge and skills of high school students who compete against other school teams for Gold, Silver and Bronze Academic medals.
The 2013 competition was held in two parts: the first on Saturday, January 26th at El Rancho High School in Pico Rivera with Interviews, speech and essay competition. The second section was on Saturday February 2nd at University of Southern California with a Quiz Bowl.
This year, Inglewood High School sent a team of nine outstanding students to represent Inglewood High. The students are Eduardo Figueroa (Captain), Alejandra Ceren (Co Captain), Richmond Amoah, Aubrey Harris, Edith Romo, Leslie Arnold, Maritza Mireles, Eric Morales (Alternate), and Stephanie Elias (Alternate). This amazing team showed their pride, academic perseverance and resilience. You will find them in “The Wave” newspaper of January 31st that will show their spirit as a team and pride of Academic Achievements and Excellence.
Overall, Inglewood High School came in 9th in Division III (Nine of 15 schools). On individual achievements Leslie Arnold won Bronze on individual standing on Russian Economics. Maritza Miereles won Silver on Interviews (just 4.8 points from Gold). Eduardo Figueroa was the top scoring Decathlete on the Inglewood High team.
Special thank YOU goes to Mr. Nunez for volunteering as judge for Super Quiz. Ms. Pitts conducted numerous instruction and competitions on music and music theory of Russian folk songs, operas and symphonies, Ms. Greene worked wonders in the preparation of essay composition as well as practiced interviewing skills with mock judging. Ms. Weiner spent numerous hours with the team in practicing interviewing skills/presentations and mock judging for the preparation for the Decathletes.
Lastly, thank you goes to the Ms. Jaccqueline Sparrow, for spending days, months in the preparation and organization of key events on campus. She has put timelines in place with practice activities at the school site in achieving the persistence of high expectation of all aspects of this HUGE event.
Again CONGRATULATIONS to the TEAM!!! Way to go Inglewood High School!!!
